Police make second arrest after reports of gang armed with knives in Weymouth

Two women were injured and a driver was threatened

Police investigating reports of a group of people armed with knives, provoking fights in Weymouth have made a second arrest.

At around 3.10am on Sunday (3 December) officers were called to reports that a group of people were walking around the town assaulting members of the public.

It was reported that during the incident a driver of a Citroen was threatened in Park Street car park. Two of the individuals involved were reported to be carrying knives.

It is reported that during the incident two women sustained minor injuries.

A 20-year-old local man was previously arrested on suspicion of affray and possession of a bladed article with intent to cause fear of violence.

Following further enquiries by detectives from Dorset County CID, another 20-year-old Weymouth man has been arrested on suspicion of threatening a person with a bladed article in a public place, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and affray.

Both men have been released on police bail as further enquires are carried out.

Detectives are continuing to appeal for any witnesses to the incident to come forward and are keen to identify the driver of the Citroen who was reportedly threatened, as well as an elderly man who was in the area and was approached and a Good Samaritan who tried to intervene.
