Weymouth rape report: Arrest made by detectives

An arrest has been made by police investigating a serious sexual assault in Weymouth's Park District.

A woman in her 20s was attacked in an alleyway off Stanley Street and Queen Street at around 9.30pm on Sunday evening (18th February).

She was found by police at around 10.40pm that night, following a concern for welfare call.

Now, police tell us a 61 year old Weymouth man's been arrested on suspicion of rape.

There's an ongoing appeal for witnesses to the attack.

Detective Chief Inspector Neil Third, of the Major Crime Investigation Team, said:

“We are continuing to appeal to anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident and saw or heard anything suspicious to please contact us.

“I would also again ask residents with home CCTV or motorists with a dashcam fitted who were travelling in the vicinity to please check their footage for anything of relevance.”
