Police were called to the scene in Suffolk Road at around 1.35pm by the ambulance service following a reported crash involving a car and a pedestrian.

The woman, who is in her 40s, sustained serious injuries. Dorset Police said her family has been informed.

The vehicle, described by police as possibly being a black Audi saloon, failed to stop at the scene and drove off in the direction of Clarendon Road.
