A man has been jailed for two charges of assault causing actual bodily harm - one which left a woman with bruising and cuts to her face.

On 14 March, 34-year-old James Holland of no fixed abode was sentenced to three years in prison.

This followed two incidents between 21 and 22 September of last year.

On 22 September at around 3am, police were called out by a concerned member of the public who heard a disturbance from a residence on Princes Street, Nuneaton.

Officers attended to find a woman with substantial bruising and cuts to her face, which had been caused when Holland attacked her before fleeing the scene.

After a search, Holland was located nearby and arrested.

The victim then disclosed another incident of assault which had taken place on the evening of 21 September, during which Holland had punched the victim repeatedly across the face and body.

Holland was sentenced to three years in prison at Warwick Crown Court on 14 March. He is also required to pay a victims’ surcharge of £228.

PC Moore said “Holland has demonstrated his capacity for violence, choosing to resort to assaulting others rather than trying to exercise any level of self-control or rational behaviour.

“We hope that after three years staring at the same walls, Holland might rediscover a sense of perspective and learn to feel disgusted by his past behaviours.

“Our thoughts are with the victim, and we hope this sentence contributes to her own recovery.”
