'Violent individual' jailed over unprovoked attack on neighbour in Braunstone Frith

A man who carried out a violent and unprovoked attack on a neighbour in Leicester has been jailed.
Richard Henderson, 57, set upon his victim - a man in his 60s - in Braunstone Frith, in an alleyway between Rowanberry Avenue and Cuffling Drive at around 4.40am on 16 November last year.
The victim had left his address and was going to work when Henderson knocked him to the ground and got on top him, punching him repeatedly to the face.
Henderson, 57, also strangled the victim while telling him he was going to kill him. He only got up when another resident stepped outside, having heard shouting.
The victim was taken to hospital by police and was subsequently confirmed to have lost both his front teeth. He also sustained two black eyes, a broken eye socket and cheekbone. The victim also suffered cuts to his upper lip, right eyebrow, cheekbone, left ear and left eye.
Police officers went to Henderson’s address but he was not there. On 19 November, he attended Euston Street police station, where he was arrested. On 4 March, at Leicester Crown Court, he pleaded guilty to one count of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
Today at the same court, Henderson – of Rowanberry Drive, Braunstone Frith – was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment.
Detective Constable Stacey Green, the investigating officer, said: “The fact this was a completely unprovoked attack shows Henderson is a violent individual and that this could’ve potentially happened to anyone.
“Thankfully he’s admitted his crime, which has meant his victim has been spared from having to re-live the ordeal in front of a jury. I hope today’s outcome provides a degree of closure and allows him to move on with his life.”
