Mega-star singer/songwriter Adele has upset some people after choosing to throw a Titanic themed birthday party, complete with life jackets, due to the film being based on real events where over 1,500 people died. Adele had styled herself as Kate Winslet, who plays the female protagonist Rose DeWitt Bukater, a fictional character in a story based on the events of 1912 when the supposedly unsinkable ship, the Titanic, sank on her maiden voyage after hitting an iceberg.

The 'Hello' singer posted a series of photos on her Instagram account with the caption, 'Dirty 30! I’m not sure what I’m going to do for the next 30 years as I’ve been blessed beyond words in my life so far. Thank you to everyone for coming along for the ride the last 11 years with me. My family and friends for entertaining my super fandom of the Titanic movie. Last night was the best night of my life. Here’s a couple pics. I’m absolutely f*, not sure I’ll make it out the house again! Ps Childish Gambino how the hell do you have time to offer us so much greatness on so many platforms. I adore you.'

Although fans on Instagram were mainly focused on wishing Adele a happy birthday...

Some people on Twitter weren't happy...

The photos split opinion amongst fans, with some pointing out that Adele was having a Titanic movie themed party, rather than mocking the event.

One thing that fans can't argue over is just how much Adele looked like Rose, played by Kate Winslet in the film.

Whilst everyone is arguing over it's bad taste we're just going to wish Adele 'Happy 30th Birthday' and sit impatiently waiting for her next album!
