Love Island host and TV personality Caroline Flack has sadly passed away at the age of 40.

Caroline's family released the following statement, "We can confirm that our Caroline passed away today on the 15th February. We would ask that the press both respect the privacy of the family at this difficult time."

A lawyer for Caroline's family confirmed that she took her own life and was found at her flat in London.

An ITV spokeswoman said, "Everybody at Love Island and ITV is shocked and saddened by this desperately sad news.

"Caroline was a much loved member of the Love Island team and our sincere thoughts and condolences are with her family and friends." Tributes have poured in from celebrities and fans all over the world.

The sad news comes just months after she stepped down from her presenting role on ITV2 show Love Island, following her arrest for assault. Caroline pleaded not guilty in court in December, and she's since been on bail awaiting the trial which is due to begin on 4th March.

Our thoughts are with Caroline's family and friends at this difficult time.
