The Chase's Anne ‘The Governess’ Hegarty has hit back over critics on Twitter who send her abusive messages regarding her weight.

She's one of the most popular chasers on the hit quiz show but that hasn’t stop harsh Internet trolls slamming her for being ‘fat’.

Despite admitting to recently tracking down some of the abusive messages, Anne has just proved she can certainly deal with the criticism.

Speaking to a national newspaper, the quiz master said “If someone asks, ‘Why are all the Chasers fat?’ you can say ‘Body-shaming’s really hurtful and offensive!’ or you can say ‘Because every time we get an answer right, we get a biscuit.”

She then went on to say “I’m more defensive on behalf of the other Chasers than I am on my own behalf. You need to grow a thick skin.”

You tell them Anne! Watch her in action below:

Anne isn’t the first chaser to receive negative abuse after appearing on the show. Newest member to the team, Jenny Ryan, recently admitted she felt ‘hurt’ after viewers admitted they switched channel when she comes on screen.

Jenny said “There’s certain people who have contacted me on Twitter, not realising I am a human being who reads things sent to me directly. They’ve said ‘I can’t stand her, I never watch more than a minute of her before switching off’. It’s a bit like, give me a chance!”.

We love them all!

The Chase has become one of the most popular quiz shows on TV with viewers since it first debuted back in 2009. With the perfect combination of witty banter between contestants and the chasers and popular host Bradley Walsh.

The show is nominated in the longlist for ‘Best Daytime Show’ at the TV Choice Awards.
