Liam Payne reveals the real reason why he and Cheryl chose the name Bear

As far as celebrity baby names go, there is no denying Bear Grey Payne was a bit of an unusual choice from One Direction's Liam Payne and his girlfriend Cheryl Tweedy when they welcomed their son back in March this year.

Well, in case you were wondering why the couple settled on that name, proud dad Liam has opened up to James Corden during his latest appearance on The Late Late Show.

During a conversation with James Corden, comedian Jim Gaffigan and Dawson's Creek star James Van Der Beek, Liam was asked the question, "Can you tell everyone what you called your son and explain why it wasn't me (James) and where the name came from?"

Joking in his first response, Liam said, "As you can see I'm surrounded by James', so you can't really be the first James anymore, can you? It's not possible. So the only logical thing to do was to call him Bear."

Liam then told the audience the REAL reason why himself and Cheryl chose the rather unusual name.

Liam said, "You know what? When he was born, I think one of the midwives said it, he actually has this thing where if they don't have a good cry, they get fluid on their lungs which is quite serious. So he was going 'grrr', growling away when he was sleeping, so I had specialists running in and out of the hospital while my missus was asleep and he was being checked over, and they were like, 'Oh, I'm not really sure, we'll get someone else in."

He continued, "And I had like, ten doctors coming in the room and in the end, one guy was like, 'Dude I'm not being funny, there's nothing wrong with him, just likes to make a lot of noise. And that's carried on ever since, so he just became Bear."

That's that one cleared up!

Despite welcoming their first child back in March, both Cheryl and Liam have decided to keep him very private and not share any photos to their social media pages of their little one's face.

Liam has however teased his fans with super cute snaps of Bear's hands and feet. Just last week to celebrate his 24th birthday, Liam shared two photos of Bear's hands and said, 'Best birthday ever 🐻💙'

After enjoying some precious family time with both Bear and Cheryl during a holiday to Majorca last month, Liam is now back out in America promoting his solo music.

During his appearance on The Late Late Show, Liam performed an amazing 'boybands vs solo artists' riff off with James to try and settle who's better once and for all.

After battling through with renditions of *NSYNC, Ed Sheeran, George Michael, Hanson, Liam Payne and One Direction, they realised that both boybands AND solo artists are great.
