Liam Payne CONFIRMS engagement and reveals son Bear has started school

It all seems to be happening for former One Direction member Liam Payne at the moment. He's recently celebrated the 10 year anniversary of the legendary boy band, and last week, the news broke he'd popped the question to his girlfriend Maya Henry following a whirlwind two year romance.

Now, the 'Strip That Down' singer has opened up about his proposal for the first time, thanking his fans for their well-wishes.

Speaking on Good Morning America, Liam was probed by the presenters about the proposal, to which he coyly said of the news, "Thanks! We're just really happy."

The 27-year-old, who allegedly spent £3 million on the engagement ring, also revealed his three-year-old son Bear Grey Payne, who he shares with his former girlfriend Cheryl, has just started school.

He added, "I've just had a birthday, my son has gone to school for the first time. So it seems like a lot of firsts for me really actually which is great!"

However, it is most likely Liam means his son has started nursery, as the school starting age in the UK is four-years-old.

The engagement came as a surprise to some, after it was reported back in February this year the pair had split. Yet, quick to shut down the rumours, a source told the MailOnline they were "definitely still a couple and are very happy together."

Liam has previously opened up about his relationship with Maya, revealing the model, who he first met when she was 15 at a 1D meet and greet, "completely had his back."

Speaking to MTV News, he said, "Honestly with love, I think you don't really understand it until it gives you that sting, it took a long time for me. For the longest time, living such an exposed life made dating really hard.

"I've found someone who's genuinely my best friend, she's just so relaxed about everything and someone who's completely got your back with everything is just the wildest thing."
