This year's Oscars was an eventful night for a number of reasons. Whilst reading the wrong winner for Best Picture was the biggest mishap for years, Nicole Kidman's clapping was also a big talking point.

Her bizarre clapping, which many likened to a seal clapping, instantly became a meme with clips posted all over the internet within minutes.

After weeks of wondering why she was clapping so strangely she has finally revealed her reasons in an interview with an Australian radio station.

Speaking to the breakfast show of KIIS in Sydney, Nicole explained exactly what happened,

"It was really awkward and I was like 'gosh I want to clap, I don't want not be clapping' which would be worse," to which the hosts agreed. Nicole then continued.

"Therefore I'm clapping, but it was really difficult because I had a huge ring on that was not my own, but was absolutely gorgeous and I was terrified of damaging it."

So there we have it, the Lion actress has revealed she didn't learn to clap from seals or otters as some had joked, she was just wearing some massive rocks on her fingers! 💍

We're glad she's cleared that up!

There were many other memorable moments from this year's Oscars including when the wrong winner for Best Picture was read out.
