Romesh Ranganathan might be known as a comedian these days, having appeared on several TV shows and stand-up tours, but before he became famous, the 46-year-old dad was a school teacher.

Reminiscing about his former career, Romesh told Angellica, James and Matt on Hits Radio, all about how he used to try and make his Maths lessons interesting.

Romesh explained: "Yeah, I did do things that got me into trouble a little bit where, like, I wanted the kids to be, like, engaged.

"As a maths teacher it's very difficult to get the kids, like, super into what you're doing. So I'd always say like what question do you want answered? So we're doing quadrilaterals once and I said whatever you decide, we're gonna do, right. What do you want to know about quadrilaterals?"

He continued: "And then one of them said, what would make the best parachute and said then we started, like, getting bits of blue tack and making parachutes out of the different shapes and then dropping out the window.

"And that was the next two lessons, and I did midway through that think, nobody's learning anything, but I committed to this and I've made this promise, so we're just gonna have to do it, you know. Anyway, thank God I left!"

The comedian also opened up about how he didn't think there was a make or break moment in comedy for him, explaining: "I feel like it's a lot of little things. We can get so worked up and nervous about this thing, this is the big opportunity, if we mess this up everything's going to go wrong, it just simply isn't the case.

"There were three pilots of a show, and the two I was involved in didn't get commissioned, right? And I remember feeling, like devastated. Another opportunity came off the back of (it) that was much better and either of those two things."

Romesh will be starring in the second series of Avoidance on BBC One. The comedy series follows Jonathan (played by Romesh) who is trying to avoid difficult conversations with his son as he has recently split from his partner (and mum of his child).

Speaking about the upcoming second series, Romesh admitted it's not for everyone saying: "I don't think everyone should be watching it, it’s not for everyone..."

Continuing: "I think the reason that you should probably, maybe watch it is because Jonathan, the character I play is sub-avoidant, and so people pleasing ,you will just gain a deep sense of satisfaction that you're not him, plus, the casts are amazing."
