There's a Hocus Pocus sequel in the works for Disney's new streaming service
The 1993 film became a cult classic
When Hocus Pocus was released back in 1993 it wasn't exactly a box office hit, reportedly losing Disney around $16.5 million! However, in the years since its release, the film starring Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy, became a cult classic, and now a sequel is reportedly in the works.
According to Collider, their sources have revealed that the writer and co-producer of Workaholics, has been asked to write a script for Disney+, the film company's new streaming service. The source has also revealed that Jen D’Angelo has also been tasked with re-grouping the original cast.
Despite Halloween being just around the corner, at present the sequel is in the very early stages, and it's not yet clear what form the sequel will take.

The original film followed three witches who had been cursed since 1693 years in Salem, Massachusetts. Resurrected 300 years later, when they get mysteriously awoken by a young boy, the trio continue with their plan in Salem to suck the souls out of all the children.
This news comes just a few months after Disney's chief executive Bob Iger revealed a sequel to Home Alone would be made for Disney+. Bob described the new films as "reimaginations". The Disney's new streaming service, Disney+, is set to be launched next year here in the UK.
Meanwhile, on the big screen, Disney have been working their way through remaking their animated films as life-action films. This year the amazing Lion King was released starring Beyoncé as Nala.

After just three weeks The Lion King broke a box office record, overtaking 2013 Disney film Frozen, which earned $1.27 billion (£1.05 billion) at the time. However, the 2019 version of The Lion King earned $1.33 billion (£1.1 billion), according to Box Office Mojo.
