Ever since the incredible Halle Bailey was announced to play Ariel in Disney's upcoming live-action remake of The Little Mermaid, rumours have been rife over who could be playing the other characters.

We know for sure that Jacob Tremblay - who you may recognise from Room with Brie Larson - and Awkwafina from Ocean's Eight will be voicing Flounder and Scuttle respectively, but apart from those two, we're in the dark.

Former One Direction star Harry Styles is apparently in the running to play Ariel's love interest Prince Eric, Bridesmaids star Melissa McCarthy is rumoured to be playing villain Ursula and fans have called for Gordon Ramsay to play the angry chef Louis, but the newest rumour is that Javier Bardem could be playing King Triton!

Javier, who is best known for his roles in No Country For Old Men, Vicky Cristina Barcelona and James Bond film Skyfall, is apparently 'in talks' for the role, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Fans took to Twitter in excitement over the potential casting, with one writing, 'I dig it', and another saying that Gabrielle Union should now be cast as the Queen - which we are VERY up for. We can ignore the fact that she had passed away in the original!

However, if this is true, fans of actor Terry Crews will be terribly disappointed after his online efforts to play the role. He first posted two Photoshopped pictures of himself - one with a long, white beard and fish tale, and another cartoon version, writing, 'IF YALL LIKE THIS ENOUGH MAYBE IT’LL HAPPEN! 🧜🏾‍♀️🧜🏾‍♂️ KING TRITON! 🔱 #TerryForTriton #MermanLife #LikeItThenWatchAGT #AmericasGotTerry.' sic

He then posted a hilarious video of himself singing the famous 'Under The Sea' from the original, with added bubbles and waves! He wrote, 'SINGING AUDITION: under the sea! under the sea! my pecs are better, my triton is bigger, take it from me!'

Who knows what will happen!
