Barbie's Ryan Gosling releases 'Ken The EP' featuring Christmas version

When the Barbie movie was released in July 2023, there's no denying it was an instant worldwide success. On top of the epic film, fans also enjoyed plenty of big tracks in the form of the film's soundtrack.

Following the incredible success of the movie's song 'I'm Just Ken', Ryan Gosling and Mark Ronson have treated fans to a special festive version of the song. Ryan has also released 'Ken the EP', which includes three new versions of the track - a festive version, an acoustic version and a dance version.

The release was teased on the Barbie The Album Instagram page, with a video uploaded which saw Ryan and Mark working at a mixing board in a studio, which is adorned with festive decorations.

Fans were delighted with the new release, taking to Instagram to share their thoughts. One person wrote: 'This song is literally my top listened song in 2023 imma run to the store and get the ep.' (sic)

Someone else said: 'it's the gift that keeps on giving.' Another person commented: 'OMG incredible.' One fan added: 'This is exactly what I needed.'

Not only does 'Barbie The Album' boast a star-studded tracklist, featuring artists including Billie Eilish and Sam Smith- but it's now one of the most popular film soundtracks EVER!

Yep, the album - which features 17 tracks including Dua Lipa's 'Dance The Night', Billie Eilish's 'What Was I Made For?' and 'Man I Am' by Sam Smith - has now become one of the most streamed soundtracks of all time, entering the Top 10. 'Barbie The Album' enters Top 10 most streamed soundtracks

Research by Headphonesty.com analysed the Top 150 films on IMDB, calculating the total streams from their official soundtracks on Spotify - revealing the Top 10 movie soundtracks of the Top 150 films of all time. With Barbie being a new release, it doesn't feature in the Top 150 films - however, the soundtrack streaming figures speak for themselves!

Which songs are on 'Barbie The Album'?

As well as a whole host of huge names, Ryan Gosling, who plays the role of Ken, features on the album with the song 'I'm Just Ken', which is performed as his character.

Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice team up on 'Barbie World', which samples the 1997 Aqua classic 'Barbie Girl', and Dua Lipa's 'Dance The Night' is already certified Silver in the UK. Other artists on the album include Sam Smith, Ava Max, Khalid, Tame Impala, Charli XCX and HAIM.

The soundtrack was executive produced by Oscar, Golden Globe and seven-times Grammy award-winning artist and producer, Mark Ronson.

Posting about their excitement of featuring on the film's soundtrack, Sam Smith took to Instagram and wrote: 'I cannot begin to express how incredibly excited I am to be a part of the soundtrack to this already iconic film.

'I was invited by the incredible @iammarkronson and Greta Gerwig to write a song from the perspective of Ken for one of the scenes and we honestly had so much fun with this. I cannot wait for you to hear what we've created together.'

Billie Eilish said: 'in january greta showed me and finneas a handful of some unfinished scenes from the film; we had nooooo idea what to expect at ALLL... we were so deeeeeply moved.. that the next day we were writing and COULDNT shut up about it lolll andddddddddd ended up writing almost the entire song that night. to be real with you this all seemed to happen in a time when i really needed it. i’m so so thankful for that.

'this video makes me cryyyyy.. it means so much to me and i hope it will mean just as much to you. don’t have much to say other than that, i think it will speak for itself :’’’’) enjoy.' (sic)

Directed by Greta Gerwig and written by Greta and Noah Baumbach, the Barbie movie features Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken. In addition to featuring on the film's soundtrack, Dua Lipa also made her acting debut by taking on the role of Mermaid Barbie.
