Miley Cyrus says touring 'isn't healthy' for her as she opens up

Back in January when Miley Cyrus made a huge comeback with her hit 'Flowers' and the release of her album 'Endless Summer Vacation' in March, fans were hoping that she would announce a tour.

However, Miley has now admitted that touring 'isn't healthy' for her. Opening up on TikTok, the 30-year-old explained how touring impacts her ability to be a songwriter, which is her 'priority'.

Miley explained: "What people don't really understand about touring is that the show is only 90 minutes, but that's your life. If you're performing at a certain level of intensity and excellence, there should be an equal amount of recovery and rest.

"There's a level of ego that has to play a part, that I feel gets overused when I'm on tour and once that switches on, it's hard to turn it off. And I think when you're training your ego every single night to be active, that's the hardest switch for me to turn off."

She continued: "Having every day the relationship between you and other humans being subject and observer isn't healthy for me because it erases my humanity and my connection. And without my humanity and my connection, I can't be a songwriter, which is my priority."

This comes after Miley confirmed in an interview she had no intentions of touring her latest album, in addition to sharing a message with her fans on social media.

Taking to Instagram to share a lengthy message, Miley wrote: 'For clarity I feel connected to my fans NOW more than ever. When I win, WE win.❤️Even if I don’t see them face to face every night at a concert, my fans are felt deeply in my heart. I’m constantly creating and innovating new ways that I can stay connected to the audience I love – without sacrificing my own essentials.'

Miley continued: 'Performing for YOU has been some of the best days of my life & we will continue this journey together as we have for the last almost two decades. This has nothing to do with a lack of appreciation for the fans & everything to do with I simply don’t want to get ready in a locker room. Which is the reality of life on the road.'

Ending with: 'These looks I’ve been turnin don’t travel well. The archival looks don’t fold. I just don’t want to sleep on a moving bus. It isn’t what’s best for me right NOW, & if you’ve been following my career you know that I always change and the way I feel about that could too. Love you forever , I’m just on my Endless Summer Vacation.'

This follows her interview with British Vogue, where she said touring: "Isn’t really the thing that I love."

Miley explained why she doesn't like to do huge tours. "It’s been a minute," she said of her years away from music. "After the last (headline arena) show I did, I kind of looked at it as more of a question. And I can’t.

"Not only 'can’t', because can't is your capability, but my desire," Miley explained. "Do I want to live my life for anyone else’s pleasure or fulfilment other than my own?"

The singer also admitted in the interview that it's: "Not natural. It’s so isolating because if you’re in front of 100,000 people then you are alone. There’s no connection. There’s no safety."

Over the last 10 years, Miley had only been on a handful of tours, in 2014, after her 'Bangerz' album she went on global tour, followed by her 'Milky Milky Milk' tour which was just eight dates across North America in 2015.

Then, last year her 'Attention Tour' saw her just perform five dates in North and South America.

During the interview, Miley also revealed how she met her boyfriend Maxx Morando. The singer told British Vogue she met the drummer from rock band Liily on a blind date! Miley said: "We got put on a blind date. Well, it was blind for me and not really for him. I thought, 'The worst that can happen is I leave'."

Despite not having any plans to tour, it's hoped Miley will do some festivals, such as her 2019 performance at Glastonbury. Miley is also still releasing music and following the success of 'Flowers' earlier this year she released the music video for 'Jaded' recently. 'Jaded' is a song about a relationship which didn't work out, with Miley singing about an ex who feels jaded and lonely.
