RAYE reveals how she'd stay positive when she was finding it tough

Over the weekend music royalty arrived at the O2 Arena in London, for the annual BRIT Awards with Mastercard. On the night, Dua Lipa opened the ceremony with a spectacular performance of 'Training Season', while we also saw performances from Becky Hill x Chase & Status, Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding, Rema, RAYE and Jungle, with Kylie Minogue ending the show on a high, after picking up her Global Icon Award.

However, The BRIT Awards 2024 was RAYE's night, as the singer, who had been nominated for a massive seven awards, picked up six gongs including the highly-prestigious Mastercard Album of the Year, for her debut, independently released 'My 21st Century Blues'.

It's been a tough journey for RAYE, as the singer left her record label in 2021 to release her music independently. However, just three years later, it's paid off, and RAYE told us in the winners' room what she would tell herself when she was going through a tough time.

The 'Escapism' singer said: "I would just tell her, you're doing good, keep pushing, you know. I think, the thing is as an artist, it's a rollercoaster of a thing isn't it? You know? I think also, you are your toughest critic. I'd just tell her, go easy on yourself, you're doing great, and trust your gut, keep trusting your gut you know?"

RAYE went on to thank all of her fans for their support, she told us: "Thank you to anyone of you who gave any second of your time to give my music a listen, and thank you for seeing me as an artist and digging into this album, you know? Like, that's all an artist could ask for, is listeners who care and listeners who will buy a ticket and come and see a show. So, just thank you to those people."

During one of her acceptance speeches, RAYE brought her grandma Agatha on stage. She told us backstage: "I might give one (BRIT Award) to my grandma to have in her house. Isn't she so beautiful? My beautiful grandma, grandma Agatha, to the world!"
