Rihanna has surprised fans by revealing a new song and music video exclusively on Jay Z’s new Tidal music streaming service.

The pop star premiered ‘American Oxygen’, an emotional ballad about the American Dream and the struggles of a conflicted immigrant.

The accompanying music video is equally powerful featuring footage of the recent Ferguson riots in the US, 9/11, Martin Luther King Jr.’s coffin and the Klu Klux Klan.

“I say, you see, this is the American Dream/ Young girl hustlin’/ On the other side of the ocean/ she can be anything at all,” Rihanna sings.

“Every breath I breath/ Chasin’ this American Dream/ We sweat for a nickel and a dime/ Turn it into an empire.”

The ‘Diamonds’ singer, who reportedly holds a US Green Card, moved to America at the age of 16 from her native country Barbados.

To watch or listen to ‘American Oxygen’ fans must pay for a subscription to Tidal.

Jay Z plans to release exclusive content on the streaming service alongside co-owners such as Rihanna, Beyonce and more.

American Oxygen is the third single to be taken from Rihanna’s upcoming album ‘#R8’ following up ‘FourFiveSeconds’ and ‘B**** Better Have My Money’.

However no release date has been revealed.
