The sad news struck in February that the beloved American police programme Brooklyn Nine-Nine was officially coming to an end, with the show's co-creator Dan Goor confirming that season eight would be the last. Now, cast members have shared some emotional tributes as filming wraps, with one of the show's stars Terry Crews 'in tears'.

In an emotional post, Terry, who played the yogurt-loving icon that is Terry Jeffords, shared a side-by-side image showing him on the first and last days of filming the show, and wrote: '@nbcbrooklyn99 FROM THE PILOT TO THE LAST DAY OF SHOOTING March 21st, 2013 — June 10th, 2021 What can I say. Been in tears all day. 8 years with this wonderful cast and crew. The highs, the lows and everything in between- but we made it.'

He continued: 'I’m so thankful for the fans who kept us alive when we were dead in the water. We came back stronger and better— all thanks to your love and support. I will miss Terry Jeffords because he IS me. The NINE-NINE will live on forever in my heart and in the hearts of millions of fans around the world. Terry loves yogurt, Terry loves love- and TERRY LOVES YOU. ❤️🙏🏾👊🏾🔥' (sic).

Also taking to Instagram, Melissa Fumero, who played the loveable Amy Santiago, shared a photo of her CBS Studio pass and wrote: '8 years ago, @beezus218 walked me, @stephaniebeatriz & @chelsanity to get our pictures taken for our lot badges. Something about that moment made everything really real- we actually made that pilot, it actually got picked up, we actually were about to shoot a whole season of this incredible show on this lot with this amazing cast that I was loving more and more each day.'

Melissa then continued: 'Filled with so much excitement and nerves, Chelsea said something that made me laugh right as the photographer clicked the camera… and that moment was predicative of what the next 8 years would be like. Each day was full of laughter, of excitement, of nerves, of confidence, of elated exhaustion, and of beautiful friendship & collaboration. #Brooklyn99' (sic).

Joel McKinnon Miller, who played the role of Scully, also shared a sweet post, writing: 'Last day of work on #brooklyn99 with a bunch of people I love❤️ #season8 #bestcrew @nbcbrooklyn99 #lighteninginabottle' (sic).

But what would goodbye tributes be without the ever-so emotional Charles Boyle, played by Jo Lo Truglio, sharing a touching post too?! The actor took to his Instagram Story to share some clips of him repping a 'Nine-Nine' t-shirt on set during the last day of filming, before captioning an image of the gang: 'NINE-NINE FOREVER 2013 - 2021'.

In February it was announced that after eight hilarious seasons, Brooklyn Nine-Nine was officially coming to an end, with the show's co-creator Dan Goor taking to various social media platforms to announce the sad news to fans all over the world.

The show, starring big names such as Andy Samberg and Terry Crews, first aired in 2013 - but sadly, the fictional 99th precinct will officially close its doors now that series eight has finished filming.

In a statement shared on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter the writer/producer said: 'I'm so thankful to NBC and Universal Television for allowing us to give these characters and our fans the endin they deserve. When Mike Schur and I first pitched the pilot episode to Andy, he said, 'I'm in, but I think the only way to tell this story is over exactly 153 episodes,' which was crazy because that was exactly the number Mike and I had envisioned,' (sic)

He continued: 'I feel incredibly lucky to have worked with this amazing cast and crew for eight seasons. They are not only among the most talented people in the business, they are all good human beings who have become a family. But most of all, I feel lucky that we have had the best fans in the world. Fans who literally saved us from cancellation. Fans who fill us with joy. Ending the show was a difficult decision, but ultimately, we felt it was the best way to honour the characters, the story and our viewers. I know some people will be disappointed it's ending so soon, but honestly, I'm grateful it lasted this long. Title of my sex tape.' (sic)

Jumping into the comments section on Instagram, fans were distraught, with one writing: 'literally heartbroken' (sic) and another commenting: 'No! I'm not ready to say goodbye to Jake Peralta. 😭😭😭😭😭' (sic).

Stars of the show could also been seen sharing the love in the comments, with Terry Crews, who plays the hilarious Terry Jeffords, simply writing: '🙏🏾❤️🔥' (sic), and Joel McKinnon Miller, who plays the loveable Scully, commenting: '❤️' (sic).

Brooklyn Nine-Nine has faced some obstacles over the years. Back in 2018, there was global uproar when it was announced that Fox had decided to axe the show, leaving fans in a state of panic that they would no longer be able to get their Jake Peralta fix. Luckily, another production company picked up the series and allowed it to carry on from season five.

The season eight release date has not yet been confirmed, but we're sure that our last fix of Captian Holt, Jake Peralta, Amy Santiago and Charles Boyle will be worth the wait.
