Everything you need to know about Trigger Point series 2

It was months in the making, but ITV/STV and Jed Mercurio's gripping drama Trigger Point, starring Line of Duty actress Vicky McClure kicked off in January 2022, with six episodes airing until Sunday 27th February.

After ITV bosses confirmed the show would be back for a second series in 2024, here's everything you need to know about the much-loved drama as it returned at the end of January.

What is Trigger Point?

Trigger Point is a six-part crime drama which aired on ITV, starring Line of Duty actress Vicky McClure and Life star Adrian Lester.

Initially announced in 2021, Vicky played the role of Lana Washington, an experienced bomb disposal operative, alongside a stellar cast including Mark Stanley, Warren Brown and Kerry Godliman.

Trigger Point turned the spotlight on counter terrorism policing, focusing on the extraordinary work conducted by the Metropolitan Police Bomb Disposal Squad.

When was Trigger Point on TV?

Series one of Trigger Point hit our screens on Sunday 23rd January 2022, lasting for six weeks.

Sharing a snap from the show, lead actress Vicky McClure told fans: 'It’s a date!! ⏰ Sunday 23rd Jan 9pm @itv @htmtelevision'. (sic)

The six-part series saw the Expo officers risk their lives with Vicky's character pushed to breaking point as she dealt with a series of improvised explosive devices which threatened the capital during a terrorist summer campaign.

It hasn't yet been announced when series two will begin, but it has been confirmed it will land sometime in January 2024.

On 4th May, ITV shared a snap of a clapperboard as the cast and crew filmed scene 5/40. The caption read: ' Series 2 pending 👀💣'.

Will there be a second series of Trigger Point?

There sure will! After the series one finale aired on Sunday 27th February, ITV bosses confirmed the popular series had been commissioned for a second series and now it's been confirmed the series will begin on Sunday 28th January.

Head of ITV drama Polly Hill commented: “I am so delighted to see Trigger Point return. Vicky is stunning as Lana and it’s brilliantly produced by Jed and HTM, but I also want to congratulate Daniel for his scripts. To have held the audience in a state of tension for 6 hours so brilliantly, you can’t believe it’s his first show. I can’t wait to see where series two takes Lana and her team.”

Producer Jed Mercurio added: "Everyone at HTM Television is thrilled by the success of Trigger Point. Thanks to all our brilliant cast and crew and especially to the viewers who watched in such large numbers. We've received unswerving support from ITV throughout the production and we are delighted to have been commissioned for a second series."

Filming for the second series started in March 2023, after the cast enjoyed a script read-through on Tuesday 7th February.

Lead actress Vicky McClure confirmed on Wednesday 7th June that filming had wrapped for series two.

On Sunday 3rd December, a short teaser trailer for series two was released.

Then, on Sunday 10th December, a full length trailer was released, revealing the show will land in January 2024.

You can now watch all six episodes of Trigger Point series one on ITVX and STV Player now.

Series two will air weekly from Sunday 28th January on ITV/STV, with all episodes also now available on ITVX and STV Player.

What time is Trigger Point on?

Trigger Point aired at 9pm with hour-long episodes. The second series is set to follow the same schedule.

Who wrote Trigger Point?

Trigger Point, is written by Daniel Brierley and produced by Jed Mercurio’s HTM Television.

After being reunited with her good friend Jed, Vicky said of the show: "So grateful to be working with Jed again. I’m really looking forward to creating a strong, bright and troubled character in Lana Washington. Daniel Brierley has produced a brilliant and nail-biting script. I can’t wait to get started later this year.”
