Firefighters are battling a large blaze in the centre of Blackpool.

Emergency services have been at the scene on Havelock Street since the early hours of this morning.

At least eight crews from Blackpool, St Annes, Bispham, South Shore, Fleetwood and Fulwood are at the scene, with an aerial ladder platform and a specialist drone unit also attending.

In an update, Lancashire Fire & Rescue said: "Eight fire engines from Blackpool, St Annes, Bispham, South Shore, Fleetwood and Fulwood, the drone unit, the aerial ladder platform and command unit from Blackpool and Fulwood, are currently in attendance at a building fire on Havelock Street in Blackpool.

"On arrival, crews found the building to be well alight.

"The affected area measures approximately 10 meters by 30 meters. Firefighters are using four breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets, along with three main jets to tackle the fire."

Drivers are being told to avoid the area, and Central Drive is closed to traffic.

The fire service have also issued a warning for people to keep doors and windows shut, because of a large amount of smoke from the blaze.

On X, Lancashire Police said: "We are currently at the scene of a road closure on Havelock Street, Blackpool.

"The road is closed due to a Fire. Please find alternative routes and avoid the area if possible."
