If you feel like you've been hanging about for ages for your other half to pop the question, just take a look at how long you've been together.

Because a study that polled 2,000 people has discovered when men are most likely to propose to their girlfriends - and where they'll do it, too.

The survey, commissioned on behalf of My Interrail, polled 2,000 adults - discovering that men actually want to get engaged earlier in the relationship than women.

Ladies want to wait for two years and seven months before being proposed to, but men prefer to wait just two years and four months before getting down on one knee.

So there you go - if you're edging closer to the two-and-a-half year mark, you've probably not got much longer to wait.

Strangely, one third of those polled said their proposal "could have gone better," and one in 10 went so far as to say the moment they were proposed to or proposed was "disastrous".

More than a third of Brits feel that the tradition of seeking permission to propose from their partner's parents was still relevant and should be followed.

And now for the where...

One in three admitted that they would have liked the proposal to take place in a more "romantic location," and one in five revealed their perfect place for a proposal would be on holiday.

The study also found the top 10 most romantic destinations in Europe - and despite being lauded as the most romantic place in the world, Paris was pipped to the post by another city...
