Accrington have announced the appointment of John Doolan as their new manager.

The 55-year-old has been in interim charge since the start of the month following the departure of long-serving manager John Coleman.

Doolan, who has been involved with the club in a coaching capacity since July 2017, has picked up four points in his three games in charge so far.

He told the club website: "I am very excited to take this role full-time. I am happy, I just can't wait to get going.

"I want to thank (chairman) Andy Holt and the board for giving me this fantastic opportunity, it is an honour to manage this club.

"Now the buck stops with me, the players are asking questions, the staff, there is everything to manage, but I have taken that responsibility on since I became interim manager and I have embraced it.

"The first week I was all over the place emotionally, but right now I am enjoying every single minute of it.

"I have been here seven seasons now and it's important to have continuity."

Accrington are currently 16th in the Sky Bet League Two table and face bottom club Sutton on Saturday. First for all the latest news from across the UK every hour on Hits Radio on DAB, at hitsradio.co.uk and on the Hits Radio app.
