Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters were called to a fire at a residential block on Royal Drive in New Southgate this morning.

Firefighters tackled a blaze at a five-storey building where two flats on the fourth floor and mezzanine were partly damaged by the fire and part of the roof was destroyed by the fire.

Around 25 people left the building before the Brigade arrived. One woman was assisted from the third floor by firefighters and the London Ambulance Service. No injuries were reported.

The Brigade was called at 1148 and the fire was under control at 1545. Fire crews from Southgate, Finchley, Hendon, West Hampstead and surrounding fire stations attended the scene. Firefighters will remain at the scene for the next few hours.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
