CCTV released after fatal crash in Salford

Police have released footage of a van they would like to trace following a fatal collision on the Eccles Interchange in Salford.

Shortly after 10.15am on Friday 18 May 2018, police were called to reports of a collision involving a car and a motorbike at junction 12 of the M62, westbound.

A white Volkswagen Caddy van was travelling in lane four - anti-clockwise on the M60 - as it approached the exit at junction 12 for the M602 and the M62.

The van can be seen to break to an almost complete stop adjacent to the exit for the junction. It then left the M60 at junction 11 for Eccles.

A few moments later, a motorbike collided with the rear of a red Jaguar.

The motorcyclist – a man in his 50s – sadly died as a result of his injuries.

Police would like to speak to the driver of the van pictured and any other vehicles that were in the vicinity of the collision immediately before and after it.

Senior Investigating Officer, Sergeant Darren Hancock, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit said, “We are doing all we can to provide the family with the answers they deserve and my thoughts are very much with them at this incredibly difficult time.

“We have a team of dedicated officers working tirelessly to identify the driver of the van as part of our enquiries and I would urge them to come forward and speak to us as soon as possible.

“We are also particularly keen to speak to the driver of a white Audi which can be seen directly behind the van. I want to stress that they aren’t in any trouble but they may have vital information that could help us.

“If you were in any other vehicle, either featured in the footage or that saw anything that could assist our investigation, then please get in touch as a matter of urgency.”
