Pensioner drives the wrong way on the M60

Polce say they received a number of terrified 999 calls.

A man in his 80s is in hospital after he drove the wrong way along the M60 in Manchester, colliding with two cars.

The driver, in a red Ford Fiesta, headed anti-clockwise in the right hand lane between junctions 3 at Cheadle and 9 at Trafford Park.

He crashed into two other vehicles at Carrington.

The North West Ambulance Service say they sent two ambulances to the scene.

A statement from Greater Manchester Police said: “At about 6.10pm on Monday, May 30, police were called to a report of a man driving in the wrong direction on the M60.

“Police received a number of reports that a red Ford Fiesta was seen driving anti-clockwise in the right hand lane between junctions 3 and 9.

“A few minutes later the vehicle was involved in a collision with two other vehicles. The carriageway was closed and re-opened about 8pm.

“The driver, a man in his 80s, was taken to hospital with injuries that are not thought to have been serious. He remains in hospital and enquiries are still ongoing.”
