Police Drop Rape Investigation

Police in Manchester investigating a report of rape in the city centre say they don’t believe any rape offences took place.

Shortly after 4pm on Saturday 19th September, police received reports that a 15-year-old girl and a 17-year-old girl had been raped on a car park on Brazil Street, in Manchester City Centre.

After investigating, police determined that no rape offences took place, but are continuing to make enquiries to locate the man involved.

The incident is believed to have happened sometime shortly before the report came in and police are now appealing for anybody who may have witnessed a man and two girls in the area in the area between 3pm and 4pm to come forward.

Detective Inspector Damian Simpson, of the Serious Sexual Offences Unit said: “We investigated this report thoroughly and are satisfied that no rape took place but we are still investigating a sexual offence against a child.

“We take all reports of rape seriously and we have and will continue to offer specialist support to the girls.

“I am keen to speak to anyone who may have seen a man and two girls in the area.”

Anybody with information should contact police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
