A Manchester mum's being made an MBE for her services to guiding young people away from a life of crime and violence.

A Manchester mum who has dedicated her time to guiding young people away from gang crime and exploitation is being honoured by the Queen.

Angela Lawrence helped set up Mothers Against Violence - she also founded a group called 'Manchester Active Voices' to engage, support and empower youngsters into becoming positive members of the community.

The 50-year-old from Stretford's been made an MBE for her services and she told us she's overwhelmed:

Angela also developed a programme of work in partnership with the Manchester City South Housing Trust, to support young people aged between 18-24 living within housing estates in the area to increase their employability skills.

She's one of numerous people in our region to be recognised in the Queen's Honours list.
