The Salford soap star Beverley Callard will be deprived of a drug after pharmaceutical bosses pulled the medication.

The actress, who plays Liz McDonald in Coronation Street, did not say what the medication was but suggested it has ceased production for financial reasons.

Callard, who lives in Eccles tweeted that she'd been battling the demons of depression:

She added: "I'm getting there!!!! Thanks so much for all your good wishes xxx''

The actress ended up almost £150,000 in debt after two pubs, one in Eccles and one in Hale Barns, went bust.

A year later she suffered a panic attack, was diagnosed with clinical depression and admitted to a psychiatric hospital.

In 2014, the 59-year-old said she came very close to taking her own life.

Beverley first appeared on Coronation Street in 1984, before returning to the show in the more significant role of Liz McDonald in 1989. She left the soap in 1998 and returned in 2003. She then left again in 2011, seemingly for good, but returned to our screens in 2013.
