Staffordshire Police say they are extremely saddened to confirm that a body has been located inside a building on Brockley Square, Hanley, following a fire earlier this week.

A post-mortem will be held in due course to establish the cause of death and officials are working to identify the deceased.

Multiple crews tackled the blaze over a number of days, working to extinguish the fire at Brockley Square after the alarm was raised at 5.45am on Tuesday (12 March).

Officers are liaising closely with Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service to understand the cause of the fire.
