Alongside Metallica and Lady Gaga’s (quite literally) muted performance, Twenty One Pilots were one of the big talking points at The Grammy Awards in Los Angeles last night (12th February).

Beating pop acts like Rihanna, Drake and Sia to the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance honour for ‘Stressed Out’, Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun stood up and dropped their trousers before walking up to the podium and accepting their gong in their underwear.

Tyler used his acceptance speech to explain why they pulled the stunt, telling the bemused audience: "This story, it starts in Columbus, Ohio, it was a few years ago and it was before Josh and I were able to make money playing music.

"I called him up, and I said, 'Hey Josh, want to come over to my rental house and watch the Grammys? As we were watching, we noticed every single one of us was in our underwear, and seriously, Josh said to me, and we were no one at the time, he turned to me and he said, 'If we ever go to the Grammys, if we ever win a Grammy, we should receive it just like this.'"

Other big winners on the night included the late-great David Bowie who won five posthumous awards and Megadeth who scooped Best Metal Performance for Dystopia ahead of Korn, Gojira, Baroness and Periphery.

Metallica and Lady Gaga’s performance of ‘Moth Into Flame’ was blighted with technical issues with James Hetfield’s mic not working for the first half of the song.

Visibly frustrated, he ended the collaboration by kicking over his mic stand and throwing his guitar off stage. You can see the footage here.
