David Coverdale says the new Whitesnake album is their ‘best’ yet
Whitesnake lynchpin David Coverdale has been waxing lyrical about the band’s upcoming 13th studio album.
Currently going by the title of 'Flesh & Blood', the album is the first collection of original Whitesnake material since 2011’s ‘Forevermore’ and should see the light of day this summer via Frontiers Music Srl.
Speaking to US station SiriusXM Radio this week, David Coverdale boldly proclaimed the record will be “the best Whitesnake album.”
Saltburn-by-the-Sea’s famous son added: “I know that's clichéd stuff, but I know what I'm talking about. I should do after almost fifty years.”
The singer explained that 'Flesh & Blood' “has all the necessary Whitesnake elements that I need to call it Whitesnake, but with a vibrant, fresh coat of paint.”
'Flesh & Blood' will be the first long-player that features writing input from guitarists Reb Beach and Joel Hoekstra and David revealed that recording sessions were delayed last year after he fell ill.
"I got that horrible H3 flu, which took me out for, I think, about six weeks before I started to feel like myself again,” David said. “It was horrifying. It was that strain of flu that the anti-flu vaccination didn't cover. It was just an evil, evil, evil strain of flu."
Ahead of the album’s release, the band filmed a video for the lead single last Saturday (10th March). David said: “It's a kick-ass song; you're gonna love it. But there's gonna some real fun elements paying respect and nod to Whitesnake's past, but certainly not as dark and as gritty as the 'Burn' video."
Whitesnake play a series of live shows across North America this summer with Foreigner on their Juke Box Heroes tour. There are no UK shows in the pipeline yet.
