James Bay has performed sublime stripped-back acoustic renditions of his anthems ‘Hold Back The River’, ‘Pink Lemonade’ and ‘Chew On My Heart’ exclusively for Absolute Radio.

The phenomenally talented singer-songwriter caught up with Ross Buchanan during his Live Music Thursday show on Absolute Radio last night (25th September) to perform acoustically and have a chinwag about newly released five-track EP ‘Turn It Up.'

During the chat, Ross asked James who his biggest celebrity name drop is. Unsurprisingly, James didn’t disappoint with his reply.

James Bay - 'Turn It Up' EP

“There’s a bunch of like, proper old legends… I remember early in sort of 2015 time Ronnie Wood was, y’know, he saw me play, he really liked it,” James said.

“Next think I know I’m doing a show at Brixton Academy and he’s on stage with me and that’s a crazy sort of thing come true.”

Reflecting upon Reginald Dwight, James added: “I went to the premiere of Elton John’s movie Rocketman and I’d met Elton John a couple of times before.

“My hair had just started growing back from having a short haircut and I saw him after the film, and he came over. The first thing he did was he sort of cam up and ran his fingers through my hair and went ‘Oooh! This is lovely! Oooh, it’s lovely to have this back, keep it coming!

“I’ll never forget that, so there’s my terrible sort of clanger name drop moment!”

James Bay - Chew On My Heart:

Alongside having a chat, James Bay recorded three very special acoustic songs for Absolute Radio kicking off with his current single ‘Chew On My Heart’, which is very much an upbeat declaration of love by someone not afraid to get hurt.

James Bay - Hold Back The River:

James also performed his towering 2014 anthem ‘Hold Back The River’; the song that propelled him into an internationally renowned singer-songwriter.

James Bay - Pink Lemonade:

And James concluded his trio of songs with ‘Pink Lemonade’ from his second studio album, 2018’s ‘Electric Light’.

James Bay’s new EP ‘Turn It Up’ is streaming now.
