Creation Stories, the eagerly awaited movie biopic about Creation Records boss and the man who signed Oasis, Alan McGee, will be available to watch in the UK this spring.

Starring Trainspotting actor Ewen Bremner as Alan McGee, Creation Stories is an adaptation of McGee’s warts and all 2013 memoir 'Creation Stories - Riots, Raves and Running a Record Label'.

The film will get its online premiere as part of Glasgow Film Festival on Wednesday 24th February 2021 before being shown on Sky Cinema in the UK from Saturday 20th March 2021.

Written by Irvine Welsh and Dean Cavanagh, Creation Stories is directed by Nick Moran (Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels) with Danny Boyle (Trainspotting, Slumdog Millionaire) executive producing.

Creation Stories also boasts a star-studded British cast including the aforementioned Ewen Bremner alongside Suki Waterhouse, Jason Isaacs, Jason Flemyng, Paul Kaye, Steven Berkoff, Thomas Turgoose and Ed Byrne.

A plot synopsis for Creation Stories reads:

“Creation Stories charts the true story of the rise and fall of Creation Records and its infamous founder Alan McGee; the man responsible for supplying the “Brit Pop” soundtrack to the ‘90s, a decade of cultural renaissance known as Cool Britannia.

“From humble beginnings to Downing Street soirées, from dodging bailiffs to releasing multi-platinum albums, Creation had it all. Breakdowns, bankruptcy, fights and friendships… and not forgetting the music.

“Featuring some of the greatest records you have ever heard, we follow Alan through a drug-fuelled haze of music and mayhem, as his rock’n’roll dream brings the world Oasis, Primal Scream, and other generation-defining bands.”

Watch a sneak-peak of Creation Stories:

The film is also described as “part cautionary tale, part cavalier romp, mostly hilarious, occasionally sobering, and constantly engaging.… An irresistible trip down memory lane, or a delightful history lesson about the last great days of rock’n’roll. When Britannia ruled the airwaves, thanks to one man with his misfit mates and their indie record label that briefly changed history.”

Founded in 1983 and dissolved 16 years later, alongside Oasis and Primal Scream, the highly influential Creation Records imprint was home to Ride, The Jesus and Mary Chain, The Boo Radleys, My Bloody Valentine, Super Furry Animals, Bernard Butler, The Cramps, Felt, and Hurricane #1 to name but a few.

Alan McGee famously signed Oasis to Creation Records after watching them perform at King Tut's Wah Wah Hut in Glasgow in May 1993. Oasis’ first three studio albums ‘Definitely Maybe’, ‘(What's the Story) Morning Glory?’ and ‘Be Here Now’ were all released through Creation.

The final full release on Creation Records was Primal Scream’s January 2000 masterpiece ‘XTRMNTR’.

Primal Scream and Oasis feature in Absolute Radio's 100 Greatest Albums of All Time countdown that's being revealed throughout January on The Dave Berry Breakfast Show.
