Video of Dave Grohl having the time of his life at final U2 Sphere gig goes viral

Video footage of Dave Grohl having a truly beautiful day at U2’s final gig at the $2.3 billion Sphere venue in Las Vegas has gone viral.

Irish music juggernauts U2 opened their ‘Achtung Baby’ residency at the innovative Sphere back in September, and they’ve been playing to a sold-out 18,600 crowd each night.

More than five months on, U2 concluded the 40-show residency on Saturday (2nd March) and Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl was among the attendees.

Since the show, a wholesome 32-second clip of Grohl fanboying during penultimate song ‘Beautiful Day’ has racked up millions of views on social media.

U2’s penultimate show at the Sphere on Friday 1st March was attended by drummer Larry Mullen Jr., and Bono dedicated ‘Beautiful Day’ to him.

Mullen took time out to recuperate from surgery, so Bono, The Edge and Adam Clayton drafted in drummer Bram van den Berg as his replacement for the Las Vegas shows.

The inside of the Sphere features a 16K resolution wraparound interior LED screen, speakers with beamforming and wave field synthesis technologies, and 4D physical effects.

112 metres high and 157 metres wide, the equally impressive exterior of the Sphere has 580,000 sq ft (54,000 m2) of LED displays.

Following the conclusion of U2’s 40-date run, Phish play a couple of shows at the Sphere in April before Dead & Company play a residency between May and July.
