An ingenious Green Day fan has reimagined what their seminal 1997 song ‘Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)’ would sound like if it was recorded three years earlier for ‘Dookie.’

A number 11 hit in the UK, ‘Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)’ was arguably the standout track on Green Day’s fifth studio album ‘Nimrod’ and it remains one of their most enduring anthems today.

Stripped-back and acoustic-led centring on Billie Joe Armstrong’s plaintive voice, it marked a seismic shift in musical direction for the trio.

24 years on from its release, a YouTuber has given ‘Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)’ a twist as if it was recorded for their breakthrough album ‘Dookie’ in 1994. Retaining Billie Joe’s vocals, the reimagined version is full of early Green Day pop punk energy.

Back in February, Green Day released a video for their new song ‘Here Comes The Shock.’ It was the band’s first musical output since their February 2020 album ‘Father of All...’, which stormed straight in at number one in the UK.

During lockdown in 2020, Billie Joe Armstrong kept himself busy with his No Fun Mondays quarantine sessions, which saw him perform tracks by John Lennon, Prince, Kim Wilde, Billy Bragg and many more. 14 of the songs were released as the Billie Joe Armstrong solo album ‘No Fun Mondays’ last November.

Green Day’s Hella Mega Tour with Fall Out Boy and Weezer is still listed as hitting the UK in late June and the dates are yet to be rescheduled.
