Pulp legend Jarvis Cocker has launched a new weekly Bedtime Stories series to help us get to sleep during these turbulent times.

The singer kicked off the series last night (5th April) with a 13-minute reading of Richard Brautigan’s Times Square in Montana in his remarkably soothing dulcet tones. The short story is lifted from the book Tokyo-Montana Express.

The stories are broadcast every Sunday evening at 9.30pm on Instagram, and they’re also available to listen to at your leisure on YouTube after the premiere.

Explaining why he has launched the series, Jarvis said: “The calm after the storm: I know it can be hard getting off to sleep at night at the moment so, as of tonight, I will be posting a bedtime story- read by yours truly - every Sunday evening.

“Thanks to Adam Dineen for sourcing the audio and Graeme Swinton for this restful graphic design. Sweet dreams."
