UPDATE (Tuesday 7th July): Tom Meighan has appeared at Leicester Magistrates' Court where he pleaded guilty to assaulting his ex-fiancee.

Meighan admitted one charge of assault by beating Vikki Ager on Thursday 9th April of this year.

Former Kasabian frontman Tom Meighan has posted a short statement on Twitter following his departure from the band.

At midday today (Monday 6th July), Kasabian broke the shock news that Tom had left the Leicester band after 23 years by “mutual consent.”

Kasabian told their fans that Tom “has struggled with personal issues that have affected his behaviour for quite some time and now wants to concentrate all his energies on getting his life back on track.”

They ended their statement with: “We will not be commenting further.”

Tom Meighan himself took to Twitter this afternoon to assure fans he was “doing well” and also to express his gratitude for their enduring support.

“Following today's announcement I just wanted to let you all know that I am doing well,” 39-year-old Tom wrote. “I'm in a really good place now. Thanks for all your love and support. I'll be seeing you all very soon. TM x”

As a member of Kasabian, Tom Meighan has scored five UK number one albums and a no.4 record with the seminal self-titled debut 'Kasabian', which has shifted more than one million units in the UK alone.

Speaking to Sky News on the eve of what would have been Kasabian’s epic homecoming Solstice II show at Leicester’s Victoria Park last month, Tom confirmed he’s been working on “autobiographical” solo material during lockdown.
