Liam Gallagher says he’s planning to retire as a solo artist following the release of his third studio album after brother Noel Gallagher begged him to reform Oasis in 2022.

Liam, who released his chart-topping second studio album ‘Why Me? Why Not’ last September, took to Twitter shortly before 8pm this evening (8th January) to tell his 3.2 million followers “I'm gonna split up with myself.”

Known for his tongue-in-cheek humour, Liam continued: “After album no3 I’m gonna split up with myself I just don’t think I’ll be able to work with myself any longer I can write what I like and so can he but I think it’s for the best,” Liam explained.

Moments later he claimed that his older brother Noel has been “begging” him for an Oasis reunion in two years’ time in 2022.

He wrote: “I intend to retire as solo artist after album no3 as I have just had a call from my brother begging me to start oasis again in 2022 if you believe in life after love c’mon you know LG x”

Whether Liam’s Oasis reunion claims come true remains to be seen; we'll take his words with a sizeable pinch of salt...

Just last November, Noel Gallagher said that Liam’s constant barbs aimed at him on Twitter were hindering the chances of an Oasis reunion.

"It's strange behaviour for someone who is gagging for me to pick up the phone and say let's do (an Oasis reunion),” Noel explained to The Big Issue.

"He'd put his whole life on hold to get Oasis back together but every tweet he sends out, it's another nail in the coffin of that idea."

Speaking to Liam directly, Noel added: "If you think for one minute, I am going to share a stage with you after what you've said you are f---ing more of a moron than you look."

True to form, Liam responded on Twitter, writing: “So news reaches me from a far that team NG are trying to get me shut down on twitter coz they don’t like my tweets did dums good luck you little fart c’mon you know LG x”

Noel also discussed Liam with Absolute Radio backstage at Isle of Wight Festival last June:

Oasis officially split in August 2009 just days after they axed their appearance at V Festival in Chelmsford.

Noel broke the news on the band’s official website, writing: “It is with some sadness and great relief...I quit Oasis tonight. People will write and say what they like, but I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer.”
