Royal Blood outselling The 1975 as they storm towards their fourth Number 1 album

Royal Blood are dead certs to score their fourth consecutive Number 1 album in the UK with their latest rock tour-de-force ‘Back to the Water Below.’

Mike Kerr and Ben Thatcher are currently sitting pretty at Number 1 at the midweek stage, and they’re outselling their nearest rival, 1975’s 10th anniversary reissue of ‘The 1975’, by more than two copies to one.

‘Back to the Water Below’ looks certain to join Royal Blood’s previous chart-toppers, ‘Royal Blood’ (2014), ‘How Did We Get So Dark?’ (2017) and ‘Typhoons’ (2021) on Friday.

Elsewhere on the midweek album chart, Slowdive are at No.3 with ‘Everything Is Alive’, and Sigur Rós are in fourth spot with their latest effort ‘Atta’.

Biffy Clyro frontman Simon Neil’s extreme metal project with former Oceansize frontman Mike Vennart, Empire State Bastard, are currently at No.7 with their debut album ‘Rivers of Heresy.’

Royal Blood’s Mike Kerr and Ben Thatcher are the very special guests on Danielle Perry’s evening show this Wednesday (6th September) from 7pm.

The duo are chatting to Danielle ‘Back to the Water Below’ and they will be picking their Through The Decades songs from Aerosmith in the 70s to The Killers in the 2010s.

Commenting on ‘Back to the Water Below’, Ben Thatcher says, “I think this record was about letting the ideas take us where they needed to go. If there was a song that was calling us to do something that wasn’t typically what we’re known for, that’s where we’re going to go.

“The songs are in charge and if that means having a record that’s quite varied that’s what we’re going to go for, rather than trying to shoehorn everything into the same world. As a result, we’ve made a record that’s a bit of a rollercoaster. It’s everything we could do.”

Following their string of triumphant summer festival shows, Royal Blood will embark on a sold-out headline UK tour this October.
