The Rolling Stones share first new song in eight years, 'Living in A Ghost Town'

The Rolling Stones have shared a brand new song called ‘Living in A Ghost Town’, which they created and recorded in Los Angeles and London and during isolation.

Written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, ‘Living in A Ghost Town’ directly references lockdown during the coronavirus pandemic, with lines like: "Life was so beautiful, now we all got locked down / Feel like a ghost, living in a ghost town."

The track features Mick on vocals, harmonica, guitar and backing vocals, Keith and Ronnie Wood on guitar and backing vocals, and Charlie Watts on drums. Additionally, Darryl Jones plays bass and Matt Clifford is keyboards, french horn, sax and flugelhorn.

‘Living in A Ghost Town’ is The Rolling Stones’ first original material since the songs ‘Doom and Gloom’ and ‘One More Shot’ from the compilation album ‘Grrr!’ in 2012.

Explaining how the song came about, Mick said: “So the Stones were in the studio recording some new material before the lockdown and there was one song we thought would resonate through the times that we’re living in right now.

“We’ve worked on it in isolation. And here it is – It’s called ‘Living in A Ghost Town’ - I hope you like it.”

Co-songwriter Keith adds: “So, let's cut a long story short. We cut this track well over a year ago in L.A. for part of a new album, an ongoing thing, and then s*** hit the fan Mick and I decided this one really needed to go to work right now and so here you have it , ‘Living in a Ghost Town’. Stay safe!”

Ronnie Wood praised the track for its “haunting melody”, while Charlie Watts says it “captures a mood” in the face of such turbulent global times.

The Rolling Stones’ ‘Living in A Ghost Town’ is available to download and stream right now. There is no physical release.
