As Jurgen Klopp's illustrious spell as Liverpool manager comes to an end and he leaves the club, we're exploring what Klopp means to the city of Liverpool in our new series - Goodbye Jurgen: What Klopp means to Liverpool

Klopp took over as Liverpool boss from Brendan Rodgers part-way through the 2015-16 season and in the following nine years, he achieved some incredible feats:

  • Securing Liverpool's first league title in 30 years
  • Winning the 2019 Champions League
  • Qualifying for four European finals
  • Securing a domestic cup double in 2022
  • Winning the Club World Cup
  • Winning the European Super Cup
  • Securing the League Cup in his final season

Anyone who witnessed Jurgen Klopp managing Liverpool will know the last nine years have been about so much more than results.

Klopp's personality, connection with the fans, and incredible ability to capture the hearts of supporters means this departure has caused upset and heartbreak across the globe.

In our new series "Goodbye Jurgen" we explore that relationship with the fans by reliving the last nine years.

Episode One

In the first episode - we hear Jurgen for the very first time as he is unveiled as LFC boss in October 2015.

Fans offer their insights into their first impressions of the "The Normal One" as he's unveiled at a now famous press conference.

Episode Two

In episode two, author and season ticket holder Ian Salmon joins Mick Coyle to discuss Klopp's first season at Anfield, which ends with a European Final defeat, but sets the tone for the future.

Ian went on to write a book to chart the campaign called "They Say Our Days are Numbered"

Who could ever forget THAT night at Anfield as Liverpool overcame a three-goal deficit to overturn Lionel Messi's Barcelona?

In this episode of the series, we talk to season ticket holder Lizzi about her European adventures with the Reds, and how Klopp put the club back amongst the European elite.

Episode Four

It took 30 years, but it finally happened.

Liverpool won the Premier League title for the first time in the 2019/20, their first League title since 1990.
