Liverpool ONE ‘relentless’ in exploring pest problem

Liverpool ONE has said it will be ‘relentless’ in getting to the bottom of its mice problem which caused yet another restaurant to shut down temporarily yesterday.

Thai restaurant Chaophraya shut its doors on Tuesday evening with a sign up saying they had a “maintenance issue” and apologising for the inconvenience caused to customers.

The news follows the temporary closure of the other Liverpool One restaurants, Las Iguanas, Zizzi, Nando’s and Yo Sushi which were shut over mice fears in recent weeks. All since have reopened.

Liverpool ONE said it was working towards a policy where the retail and leisure destination would be entirely pest free. Estate Director at Liverpool ONE, Chris Bliss said: “We and our restaurant operators want to reassure the public and all of our visitors that we take hygiene and cleanliness extremely seriously at Liverpool ONE.

"We will not stand down on eradication and prevention measures until there is absolute confidence of the highest possible standards across our site. It is likely the most reviewed and regulated dining destination in the entire city and we have been relentless in our exploration of any problems that have been brought to our attention. We work with industry experts at length and I can say with confidence that we are doing everything possible to make sure standards are being demanded, met, checked and maintained.

He added: “We also work extremely closely with environmental health officers and welcome their inspections and support to ensure we deliver the highest possible standards which our customers rightly expect.

“Environmental health officers have been carrying out a series of routine inspections which have led to a number of issues being highlighted and tackled. We believe, that a number of restaurants have received 5 star ratings in those inspections and that, across our vast estate, the problem has been limited to a relatively small area.

“Our own pest control officers have remained on site continuously since seperate problems were identified and have been carrying out daily inspections at all of the restaurants and also back of house at Liverpool ONE.

“A range of stringent measures have been and will continue to be implemented to make sure we deal with any issues, including intensive deep cleansing and pest control which goes significantly beyond the industry standard.

“ We appreciate these issues have caused concern And disruption for our customers and appreciate their patience and loyalty while we reach a solution.”
