We think Liverpool is the best city in the world. Here are ten reasons why:

1. The people Scousers are the best kind of people. Whether it’s your taxi driver on the way in to town or the one you meet at the bus stop, you’ll always be met with a smile and a joke.

2. The buildings The Liverpool skyline is recognisable across the world. The traditional architecture in the city centre juxtaposes the modern builds, with the Liver Building being the forefront of the city. The Three Graces reflect the history of the city, with St Luke’s Church standing as a reminder of the war. Our two cathedrals stand either side of Hope Street and are another stunning sight.

3. The parks Sometimes it’s good to escape the city centre and have a breather. Lucky for us, Liverpool offers some amazing parks. Sefton Park is the perfect place for a walk or jog after work, with the impressive Palm House in the centre. Calderstones Park is another one, complete with a Japenese Garden, mini railway and children’s play area. Some of the smaller parks around the city include Stanley Park and Allerton Towers which are also great places to spend some time. Not forgetting the beautiful Birkenhead Park in Wirral which inspired New York’s Central Park!

4. The music The Beatles are undoubtedly the most famous band to come out of Liverpool, putting the city on the world map. But the music in Liverpool goes further than John, Paul, George and Ringo. Bands such as Echo & the Bunnymen and The Wombats have emerged from the city and with festivals such as SoundCity - our music rivals any other. The Coral’s recent headline set at SoundCity was an incredible experience for the hundreds before them as they reunited to perform, with Liverpool to the left and their hometown of Wirral across the Mersey.

5. The theatres Liverpool is famous for its plays, playwrights and actors. The newly opened Everyman Theatre stands proud at the top of Hope Street, while the Liverpool Playhouse is known for nurturing the early careers of many actors. We’ve also got the Royal Court a short walk away which prides itself in local talent, and of course the Liverpool Empire which showcases West End shows each year. Smaller theatres across Merseyside include the Epstein Theatre, Southport Theatre and Theatre Royal, St Helens.

6. The history The history of Liverpool is one of the main reasons our city is so great, built on innovation and rebellion. From our renowned ports to the Hillsborough fight to justice, past generations of the city have paved the way for the rest. A day spent at the Albert Dock or one of our museums, proves how much Liverpool has contributed to today’s world.

7. The shops Liverpool is one of the best places to shop. From the independent stores that line Bold Street, to the famous markets to Liverpool One which is the shopping centre of the city. Merseyside girls are known for their love of designer and fashion wear, which can be found in the Cavern Walks or one of the exclusive Cheshire stores.

8. Football Red or blue, the passion for football across Liverpool is undeniable. Standing in the Kop as the thousands sing "You’ll Never Walk Alone" provokes emotion like no other. Matches like Istanbul in 2005 are games that are remembered forever and the loyalty of fans who follow their teams up and down the country are ones to be admired. Let’s not forget Tranmere Rovers on the Wirral.

9. Things to do There is always something going on in Liverpool. Festivals, gigs, premieres. Whether it’s a rooftop opening or you’re waving off a ship at the docks- you’ll never be bored.

10. Our radio stations We are a bit biased but we love bringing you four stations from the top of the tower! From today's hits to classic anthems, we've got you covered!
