A coroner's ruled neglect played a part in the death of a toddler at Whiston Hospital after doctors failed to sport she had sepsis.

15 month old Evie Crandle, went in to the hospital in St Helens for treatment last April - and her worried parents even told staff they feared she had the deadly condition.

Today Liverpool Coroner's Court has heard officials didn't recognise how ill the little girl was

Diane Roston, who's Evie's parent's solicitor said: "Evie's parents recognised their daughter was sick, they did exactly what parents are advised to do, where all the staff had to do was to follow a check list and put Evie on the sepsis pathway"

"She was at that hospital at good time for her life to be saved by very simple means."

A spokesperson St Helens and Knowsley Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust said: "The Trust offers its sincere condolences to Evie’s family for their devastating loss, and has unreservedly apologised for the shortfalls in her care."

"When Evie first attended A&E it was not anticipated that her condition would deteriorate so seriously."

"Sepsis is a rare and difficult condition to diagnose with symptoms similar to those of many childhood illnesses. Following Evie’s death, an immediate and thorough investigation was carried out. The Trust accepted that Evie’s care could have been improved and shared those finding with Evie’s parents. Action plans have been implemented to ensure lessons have been learned."
