Board of Trustees

Cash for Kids Trustees include an independent Chairman and Trustee along with representatives from Bauer Radio. Trustees are appointed by the chairman and serving Trustees of the charity.

The Trustees meet regularly throughout the year overseeing both our fundraising and grant making.

To ensure proper stewardship of the funds raised, all nominations from those who believe that funds should be destined to a particular family or group have to be accompanied by a recommendation from an accredited body such as Local Authority Social Work Departments, head teachers, GPs, members of the clergy and community workers.

Eddie Hawthorne (pictured top)

Eddie Hawthorne is Chairperson of the Cash for Kids Board of Trustees in the West of Scotland, comprising Radio Clyde, West FM and Greatest Hits Radio across Dumfries & Galloway.

He is the Arnold Clark Group Chief Executive and Group Managing Director and a Fellow of the Institute of the Motor Industry. He believes, "If our customers are happy, I’m happy".

Eddie began his career in the Audit department of Arthur Young in Glasgow and became a qualified chartered accountant in 1989.

In 1990, he joined Arnold Clark Automobiles Limited as Group Financial Controller, working closely with Sir Arnold Clark and eventually becoming promoted to Group Managing Director in 1998.

Since then, he has been involved in the expansion of the Group to become Europe’s leading independently owned car retailer.

With over 12,500 employees across 200 UK sites, it’s a rapidly growing company. It’s the people who work at Arnold Clark that make the company the success it is today.

Eddie spends a lot of time travelling between branches to make sure we’re working together as one business and putting the customer experience at the heart of everything we do.

The Arnold Clark group has been supporters of the work Cash for Kids carries out for many years. Child poverty remains a blight in today’s society and the work that Cash for Kids does to tackle this issue head on is vital.

Arnold Clark was the first organisation to win a platinum award from Cash for Kids in recognition of its generous support of vulnerable children across Glasgow and the West of Scotland.

Sally Aitchison MBE

Sally’s career has spanned 41 years in the radio industry, starting on reception in 1982 at Radio Tees and working her way through the sales side of the business to become Managing Director at TFM radio. Sally was promoted in 2001 to become the Managing Director of Metro Radio in Newcastle-upon-Tyne and then Regional Managing Director in 2006. This role took in additional responsibility for the North East of Englang and Cumbria plus the Magic Radio network.

Sally joined Cash for Kids in 2011 and has led the team of 65 across the UK to deliver consistent growth and innovation. Cash for Kids has three legal entities in the UK: England, Wales and Northern Ireland, East Scotland and West Scotland.

Sally is the Managing Director of Cash for Kids across the UK, the Chair of the Board for England, Wales and Northern Ireland and East Scotland, and a Trustee for West Scotland.

Sally is a Fellow of the Radio Academy, and she was awarded an MBE in 2019 by HRH Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace for services to Charity and Radio.

Sally has two children, Catherine and Christopher, and a Granddaughter Erin. Hobbies include walking her Beagle Luna, theatre, live music and gardening.

Craig Dickson

Craig has worked for Royal Bank of Scotland / NatWest Group for 23 years and has covered a variety of leadership roles within Corporate and Commercial Banking and more latterly within the Risk function where he is currently leading the bank's efforts in embedding Climate Risk into the credit decisioning process across the wholesale portfolio.

Craig has amassed a strong understanding of financial management and governance from both his time working within the bank and over the last eight years with Cash for Kids. Craig first joined Cash for Kids in 2016 where he became an active member of the Finance & Audit Committee so has a strong understanding of the finance and governance aspects of the charity and has recently been appointed Chair of this committee.

Through his time within the bank, Craig has supported numerous charity partnerships including The Kiltwalk and The STV Children’s Appeal bringing an energy and enthusiasm to leverage the bank's capability and reach to help make a difference in the communities they serve.

In his personal time, Craig also supports local youth sporting groups and has until recently acted as a Young Person Mentor within local schools.

Craig lives in Glasgow and is married with two children. On top of spending time with his family he enjoys running and playing golf (when time permits).

Lorraine Herbison

Lorraine is an accomplished news reader, broadcaster and journalist who has worked in both radio and newspapers.

She currently heads up all news and sport output for Bauer Media Audio’s radio stations in Scotland and is also the Bauer Media UK news department’s voice coach.

Before that, Lorraine was responsible for the news and sport department at Radio Clyde and read news bulletins, jokingly known as 'Big Lorraine' on the Clyde 1 Breakfast Show with George Bowie.

Lorraine also sits on the Editorial Board for IRN (Independent Radio News) and the BJTC (Broadcast Journalism Training Council).

She is also an accomplished MC/event host, ARIAS judge and BJTC Awards judge.

Originally from Northern Ireland, she started her career in newspapers at the Lennox Herald in Dumbarton before moving to the Evening Times in Glasgow and also freelancing for the nationals.

Colin Reid

Colin Reid is the Head of Marketing for the Hits Radio and Greatest Hits Radio Networks in Scotland (part of Bauer Media) and has been in the role for 10 years.

He looks after the marketing of all six of the Hits Radio stations in Scotland as well as Greatest Hits across the country too. His role involves raising awareness of the stations and ultimately increasing listener numbers.

This is achieved through a wide variety of branded activities, partnerships, events, promotions, PR, communication, digital and social media strategies.

Previous to his current position, Colin spent nearly six years as Marketing Manager of the hugely popular Xscape Braehead leisure destination in Glasgow (now known as Xsite, at Braehead), breaking many visitor records and winning numerous awards.

Prior to that he spent 10 years at Scottish Rugby in a mixture of Rugby Development, Marketing and Event roles.

He also spent 10 years in the print and design industry working in a variety roles.

Sharon Munro

Sharon Munro worked in the travel industry for 28 years. She ‘officially’ joined the family business, Barrhead Travel, at 18 as a trainee.

Sharon spent time in every department including sales, marketing, IT and finance and progressed through the business to be become Managing Director. She led a management buy-out in 2007 becoming the majority shareholder and CEO.

Driving the business forward in an ever-evolving industry and understanding the customer’s needs, offering a variety of holidays and experiences set Barrhead Travel apart and the company was awarded Scottish Travel Agent of the year many times. She has received a number of accolades from the travel industry and beyond, recognising her achievements including being named as one of the top 60 influential women in travel.

During her career, Sharon was passionate about running a socially responsible organisation and encouraged staff to support local communities and participate in charitable projects. Growing a sustainable business offering long term employment, staff progression and development in the workplace was also a key driver for Sharon. The company was listed in the Sunday Times top 100 companies to work for on several occasions.

In February 2018, Barrhead Travel was sold to American company Travel Leaders which gave Barrhead the resources to expand in traditional markets, access to new technologies and additional travel options to benefit clients. At the time of the sale Barrhead had over 75 locations UK wide, over 900 employees and a turnover of over 300 million.

Victoria Easton-Riley

Victoria Easton-Riley is the Content Director for the Hits Radio and Greatest Hits Radio Networks in Scotland and started this role in March 2019. She is our most senior programming person in Scotland and is responsible for all Scottish content on all 14 licences in Scotland. This involves looking after all of our Presentation team including Content Directors, Presenters and Producers.

Victoria has been in radio for over 25 years and she came to us from BBC Radio 1 where she produced the Breakfast Show with Nick Grimshaw. Prior to this she produced various shows for Radio 1 including The Official Chart, Fearne Cotton and Scott Mills. During her time in London she worked across many other networks including Absolute Radio, 5Live and 1Xtra.

Previous to this, Victoria was Head of Daytime at Radio Clyde and was a Producer at Real Radio where she secured various awards for The Real Breakfast Show and The Real Football Phone-In. During her time at Bauer Scotland, the team have produced record breaking figures and have over 20 award nominations in only three years.

Jason Miller

Central Car Auctions Managing Director, Jason Miller, is a long-standing supporter of Cash for Kids, supporting the charity as part of Central Car Auctions for over 25 years.

Established in 1965, Central Car Auctions started with a family-run auction house in Glasgow’s Gallowgate area before the business developed and expanded to become what it is today – Scotland’s leading vehicle auction facility. And there’s no stopping there, Central Car Auctions is continuing to grow, joining the Arnold Clark Group in 2022 and expanding into England with a new site in Birtley, Newcastle, in June 2023. Plus, the company is excited to be opening a further three sites in England in 2024, to offer even more vehicles to their customers!

Jason and the team at Central Car Auctions hope to continue to grow the business and their support for the important work Cash for Kids is doing for many years to come.

Susan Tate

Susan is the People & Culture Director for Bauer Media Audio UK.

Susan has been with Bauer Media since 2006 leading People & Culture initiatives across the UK Audio & Central functions teams.

She has led on the People integration of many Audio acquisitions ensuring people, culture and belonging are at the heart of everything we do at Bauer.

Susan is an advocate of Diversity & Inclusion, championing initiative’s and supporting people in bringing their whole selves to work. She drives programmes and policies which support a positive employee experience and environment, listening to what our people want to ensure we make Bauer a great place to do great work for all.

Susan is married with 3 young children and while they keep her busy with all their many interests and hobbies, she enjoys being active, walking their dog, going for a run and socialising with friends and family.

William Vernall

William is the Secretary of the Cash for Kids Board of Trustees in the West of Scotland, comprising Radio Clyde, West FM and Greatest Hits Radio across Dumfries & Galloway.

William is an Audit and Accounts Associate with Milne Craig Chartered Accountants. He has been in professional practice since 1999 and qualified as a CA in 2003. He has responsible individual status with ICAS and works with a wide range of charitable organisations on both independent examination and audit assignments.
