Players of Clyde 1’s £5k Minute have been kindly donating their winnings to Cash for Kids throughout 2019, reaching a milestone £1,000 for the charity on Wednesday 30th October.

In total, 39 £5k Minute players have donated their winnings to Cash for Kids throughout the year. The huge £1,000 was finally achieved after contestant Hope Hutton, 23 from Baillieston donated the £15 that she had won by answering three questions correctly. Coincidentally, Hope’s cousin was selected to play the previous week, also scoring 3/10.

Contestant Hope Hutton said of her donation: “I listen to Clyde 1 regularly and the work they do with Cash for Kids has always really impressed me. I play along with £5k Minute every day and always thought if I was lucky enough to get on air to play - and win - I’d donate at least something to Cash for Kids. When I was told my winnings were £15, it was an easy decision to offer the money straight to the charity. I had so much fun playing the quiz, it was a great experience and knowing that my donation has helped Cash for Kids reach the £1,000 mark has made it even better.”

Sponsored by Wholesale Domestic Bathrooms in Hillington, the £5k Minute is played live on Clyde 1’s breakfast show, Bowie@Breakfast every morning. Each of the first nine questions in the competition are worth £5, with the final question securing the player £5,000 if correct. Only four people have correctly answered all ten questions and secured the top prize of £5k so far this year.

The £1,000 milestone for donations from £5k Minute players has been achieved just in time for Christmas, when Clyde Cash for Kids hopes to support more than 36,000 children in the local area to ensure children have warm clothing, access to a hot meal and a small gift.

Clyde 1 launched their Cash for Kids ‘Mission Christmas’ initiative on-air on Monday 11th November, encouraging listeners to fundraise and donate so they can help make a difference to the lives of local children who won’t have the opportunity to experience the magic of Christmas.

Debbie Fraser, regional charity manager at Clyde 1 said: “We are truly thankful to all of the £5k Minute players over the year that have very kindly donated their winnings – however big or small – to Cash for Kids. The £1,000 raised to date will make a huge difference to the lives of the children and communities that we support. We’ve just launched Mission Christmas to ensure local children are fed and warm and can enjoy the festive season - we welcome all support, fundraising efforts and donations to help Cash for Kids achieve this – it is hugely appreciated.”

Walter Toward, managing director of Wholesale Domestic Bathrooms in Hillington said: “Myself and the staff at Wholesale Domestic Bathrooms love sponsoring the £5k minute and being part of such a great competition on such a well-loved station. The generosity of the 39 listeners is really touching and I’m sure the money will be put to good use by Cash for Kids, a charity we also support through our sponsorship of the Mission Christmas initiative.”

Clyde 1 Breakfast presenter George Bowie added: “Hosting the £5k Minute every morning is really great fun – the questions are challenging, as proved by the fact we’ve only had four winners in 2019. To know that our dedicated listeners have put their winnings towards Clyde 1’s chosen charity, Cash for Kids is really special and it will be hugely appreciated by those who the charity supports. Myself and the Clyde 1 team look forward to being part of Mission Christmas and helping to raise further funds and smiles for children who need them most.”

Bowie@Breakfast runs every weekday morning from 6am to 10am on Clyde 1. The £5k Minute is sponsored by Wholesale Domestic Bathrooms in Hillington.
