X Factor star Jahmene Douglas has broken his silence on social media after previously worrying fans with a suicidal post.

The 26-year-old shared an emotional message with fans last week where he admitted 'my mind is plagued with suicidal thoughts'. In the harrowing note, Jahmene also revealed he felt 'broken, lost and worthless' and told fans 'all I am ever left with is the desire to die'.

Jahmene's friend and fellow X Factor contestant James Arthur publicly showed his support for the singer when he tweeted, 'Brother I'm here for you. Answer your phone. I know what you're going through. Pick up. ❤️'

After five days of silence following his note, Jahmene has finally updated his fans with a heartfelt apology.

He said, 'Thank you all for your overwhelming support, love and prayers. I apologise for any worry I have caused. I felt as though I was being backed into a corner and panicked with whatever hijacked my head was going to succeed in its mission. (sic)

He added, 'It wasn't intended as a goodbye, but simply me slipping a note under the prison door to see if anybody knew of an escape (sic).
