James Arthur hasn't taken the easiest path to fame. After winning The X Factor in 2012, he made some bad choices and was dropped from Simon Cowell's record label - but after his second album 'Back From The Edge' did well in the US in 2016, he was resigned to the label and all was well again.

The 30-year-old, who grew up in Middlesbrough, has been very open and honest about his struggle with his mental health over the last couple of years, but overcame his struggles to go on a UK nationwide tour last October.

It would appear that the singer is just finding his groove again, preparing to embark on another set of shows this summer and achieving a top 10 single with Rudimental after featuring on their track 'Sun Comes Up'.

But fans have been left perplexed over James' future musical career after he posted on Twitter that he was planning to retire after releasing his upcoming album.

These are the biggest music collaborations of the year so far...

Camila Cabello and Young Thug

Former Fifth Harmony singer Camila Cabello dominated the charts with her massive collaboration with Young Thug on the catchy single 'Havana'.

Fans were completely stumped by the announcement, replying to his tweet in utter shock.

HOWEVER. According to Metro.co.uk, the singer songwriter was just pulling a prank on his fans, as his rep confirmed to the publication that it was a joke tweet.

Although James himself has not yet confirmed he was joking, and there hasn't been a statement released - fans can rest easy in the knowledge that James won't actually be retiring at the age of 30!

His third album does not yet have a known title or release date, but singles 'You Deserve Better' and 'At My Weakest' have already been released from the new album.
