Is this the best complaint letter ever?

The Brits like to complain.

Published 19th Aug 2016

The British public are known to like complaining, so even when there's nothing to complain about we complain.

When Rebecca Gadsby from Nottingham went on holiday to Thailand she was surprised that everything on the trip went to plan and she was left with nothing to complain about.

Rebecca went on Intrepid Travel’s Hike, Bike and Kayak Thailand trip and after returning from her amazing holiday felt a simple tick box wasn't enough to convey her experience. Taking an unusual approach she decided to write a lengthy 'complaint letter',

"People are so quick to complain and silent when a compliment is due." Rebecca told us,

"I thought that's what they'd be expecting and I wanted to a smile on a few faces if possible." She continued.

In the letter which can be read in full on Intrepid's website Rebecca describes her guide Prapassorn Yapiang as being more efficient than her computer saying, "I think she might actually be a machine...often going above and beyond the ‘call of duty'."

Rebecca talks about two particular incidents when she might have been able to complain, but her guide stepped in even cooking the food in the restaurant when the meal was taking a while to arrive.

"Before I knew it, my meal was being served and an opportunity to complain had been lost."

Whilst in Thailand the 37-year-old theatre director celebrated her birthday and was treated to a blessing from a monk and even cake in the evening, which Rebecca said made her "smile, much to my disgust".

The holiday-maker then ends her letter saying, "a completely disappointing trip – with absolutely nothing to complain about and only amazing memories."

After receiving Rebecca's letter Intrepid sent her a bunch of flowers to which she replied,

"You had much better send flowers to Prapassorn Yapiang; as she is Thai it is more acceptable for her to be grateful – even happy – about such a lovely surprise."
